On the 24th of March, 2018, during the World Science Festival Brisbane, the winners of the Queensland Women in STEM Prizes were announced by the Minister for the Environment and Science Leeanne Enoch MP and Minister for Women Di Farmer MP. With over 10,000 views, Amy Chan was awarded the People's Choice award for her entry describing her research on sepsis and her motivation for continuing to raise the profile of women in STEM fields, titled "Mission Inflammation: Guarding against Collateral Damage in Infection"

This is Amy's second year as a Young Science Ambassador with Wonder of Science, and says her involvement in the WoS program (featured in her video entry) provided her with the confidence to apply for the award:

“I’d like to thank Wonder of Science for giving me the confidence to apply for the Queensland Women in STEM award. WoS gave me a lot of science communication practice and now I feel comfortable talking to other people about my PhD (I used to avoid doing this at all costs!)”
